Research ethics and biosafety

Applied Biofilm Science (ABS) is committed to ensuring that all published research is conducted safely, ethically, and in compliance with international standards. All manuscripts submitted to the journal will be evaluated for compliance with the following ethical and biosafety guidelines.

Failure to provide the necessary ethical declarations or evidence of biosafety compliance may result in the immediate rejection of the manuscript.

1. Biosafety and Handling of Pathogens

Because biofilm research frequently involves opportunistic pathogens, foodborne bacteria, and multidrug-resistant clinical isolates, strict adherence to biosafety protocols is paramount.

2. Human Subjects Research

If the submitted research involves clinical biofilm isolates directly obtained from human patients, clinical trials, human tissue, or medical records, it must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki.

3. Animal Subjects Research

Research involving in vivo biofilm models (e.g., animal models for implant infections or wound healing) must be conducted with the highest standards of animal welfare.

4. Food, Environmental, and Industrial Sampling

Studies investigating biofilms in food processing plants, agricultural settings, or public water systems must adhere to appropriate sampling ethics.

5. Statement Formatting in the Manuscript

Authors are required to include an "Ethics and Biosafety Statement" directly before the References section of their manuscript.
